Pediatric Dentistry for Kids Who Experience Dentophobia
In every case of pediatric dentistry, we work with you to make your child’s visit comfortable. For kids who experience severe anxiety when visiting the dentist, we offer sedation dentistry. Parents of children who are extremely anxious or who have a disability may request nitrous oxide or “laughing gas,” administered by placing a small breathing mask over your child’s nose. Your child will relax and remain awake during the procedure. Parents whose children experience very severe anxiety, are very young, or have a more severe disability may request conscious sedation. If you request conscious sedation, we will administer medication that will induce relaxation and comfort while possibly making your child drowsy. Conscious sedation allows the child to fall asleep but remain in a conscious state. The American Dental Association recognizes nitrous oxide and conscious sedation as safe and effective for children.
